PUB launched a Directed RFP on 2 Dec 2019 to invite researchers and industries to develop solutions on the topic of “Low-energy Low-chemical Pre/Post-Treatment for Seawater Desalination”.
Energy efficiency for desalination has been a key research topic for Singapore. So far, significant research efforts have been directed to improve the main desalting step. To complement these ongoing efforts, pre-/post-treatment of desalination is recognised as a potential area for improvement and warrants further investigation. This Directed RFP 1901 hence solicits low-energy and low-chemical solutions for A) pre-treatment processes, and/or B) post-treatment processes (particularly boron removal) for seawater desalination. Proposed solutions related to main desalting step as an alternative to the existing (commercial) SWRO, which can improve and/or optimise the overall desalination treatment process, will also be considered in this RFP. More details on the RFP can be found in the Fact Sheet .
